—Curriculum Guides—

Our curriculum guides provide veteran and novice teachers with a comprehensive framework to ensure that their units maintain a clear, consistent focus while preparing students for the rigor and challenge of college-level coursework.

Our curriculum guides are PDF digital downloads that contain detailed descriptions of each activity that we use in our online literature courses at Literary Focus.  Our guides also contain all PowerPoint slides that we use in each class as well as copies of all assignments, assessments, and supplemental material to extend student learning.  The order of the essential elements of the Framework reflects the sequence we use in our curricular design process and does not necessarily reflect the order in which we present material to students.

What Teachers Say About Our Curriculum Guides

"As a private reading tutor and high school English teacher, I appreciate the backwards design of these ELA units and their comprehensive nature that includes all aspects of the language arts curriculumreading, writing, listening, and speaking.  The end goals of each unit not only address uncovering the themes in the literature but also interacting with them in larger contextsthe author's biography, literary criticism, philosophy, society, and perhaps most importantly, students' own lives.  "Essential Questions" present the key ideas of the text at the beginning of the unit, and they recur as a unifying thread in the annotation focus when reading, in discussions, in writing assignments, and in the "authentic assessment" where students reflect on how these ideas shape their own lives.  Several original articles and graphic organizers that support higher order thinking are included in each unit.  I am honestly blown away by the rich content in these courses that will truly prepare students for college-level thinking, reading, and writing."
